Welcome to my blog and follow me on my sewing journey
Hello to all out there who are reading. I'm Emma, the owner of Emma's Sewing Studio.
For a long time now my family has owned aa fabric and haberdashery store in Hastings but since helping to take it over I've been realising more and more that we need to move into the current century. Oftentimes, when we think of sewing we picture the image of an older lady sat in her sewing room, creating her latest quilt her her grandchild or repairing her kids clothes. But I'm on a mission to change this image from my little corner of the world.

After spending the last three years pulling my shop out of the 20th century and into the current age, I have realised that there is so much more to the sewing world. Starting with setting up social medias and interacting with people across the country who are all excited about sewing and creating to physically putting in a modern till in our shop and setting up social groups locally.
Talking and interacting with all these lovely people in the sewing community had lead me to realise two things; firstly, that there is a wealth of younger sewists that are emerging, bringing a new vitality to a craft that had dwindled (especially following the pandemic, where everyone took up a new hobby or two)
Secondly, that we can and perhaps should all be doing a little more to make our favourite hobby a little more environmentally friendly.
Now, I'm no expert in all things environmentally friendly but through this website and blogging journey, I hope to look into more and more ways we can be more environmentally aware and sensitive. Bringing the things I learn into both my own sewing practices and also through the products and information available on my website.
I've started with a few fabrics that I love that are either natural fabrics or deadstock (so they are saved from landfill). So check out the selection so far, there's sure to be more on the way.
Well, that's my little introduction, I hope you follow me on my journey!
